New Link Added: ComixTribe

I’ve just added a link from this site to ComixTribe.

For many months now I have been studying the articles on this site to learn more about creating comics.  There is a wealth of information on here for all comics creators.

There is even a section where you can submit your own comic script for a free review by industry professionals.  Be warned though, this is not for the faint hearted, these guys don’t sugar coat stuff!

I have even used this service myself for my Project ADC-1 script V3.  You can read the review here.  It has definitely given me a few pointers for the next draft.

After pondering my priorities for this project, I have moved the goal posts on myself and decided that no-longer will Timescales be the over-riding priority.

Instead Quality will be the over-riding priority.

The reason is that I am enjoying the journey as much as the thought of the end-goal so I want to continue to take the time to explore interesting avenues as I find them.

My Make A Steampunk eComic Dashboard page has been updated accordingly.

Tasks completed over the last 2 weeks:

  1. Dark Temple of Mymosule concept art (4 hrs).
  2. Design an Artloader logo for this website (Started 2 hrs).

  2. Dark Acolyte Of Mymosule concept art by painting over a 3D render (10 hrs).

My digital comic project went off the rails a bit over the last 2 weeks when I decided to re-write the plot.  It didn’t reveal enough about Benevolen’s stealth abilities.

Now it does.

I’m starting do reconsider my over-riding prioritisation of timescales.  Quality is starting to matter more to me than getting this done quick.

Hmmm meditate upon this I will …

Digital Comic Panel Layout

A while ago I tried reading digital comics on my 3.5 inch mobile phone and found the experience to be less than satisfactory.  Even Comixology’s Guided View technology did little to improve the experience.

That got me thinking about designing a digital comic panel layout.  So what makes a good digital comic panel layout?

I did a bit of surfing around and stumbled upon this useful article on Tapastic:

http://tapastic.com/episode/68726

After studying the above article and mulling over my mobile phone experience, here’s my take on what makes a good digital comic panel layout:

  1. The panel being viewed should fit entirely on the screen.
  2. Vertical page scrolling is preferred.
  3. For smaller mobile devices, people will probably use landscape orientation so landscape panels will work better here.
  4. Horizontal scrolling should be avoided.

So the design I came up with is just to have a column of 3 full width panels which is in line with the above list and you don’t end up with panels that are too squat.
